An All-Female California Drug Rehab Center or Outpatient Drug Rehab
The Benefits Of A Single-Sex California Drug Rehab Center
While rehab of any sort is, of course, beneficial to a struggling alcoholic or addict, choosing a single-sex California drug rehab center (or a rehab in any region of the United States) can be extremely wise move for certain clients. Recovery is possible anywhere, but for addicts who have a tendency towards relationship sabotage or romantic codependency, staying away from the opposite sex can remove an enormous element of distraction in the rehab process. As it stands, addicts are wired to seek validation, comfort, and distraction outside themselves (anything to numb feelings generally looks good to an addict), so co-habitating with the opposite sex can often be quite disruptive to the process.
Choosing A Women-Only Inpatient or Outpatient Drug Rehab
Again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with “coed” drug and alcohol rehabilitation. For some people, though, it just makes more sense to eliminate unnecessary distraction. The elimination of distraction, however, is probably the least convincing reason to pursue single-sex drug treatment. Many female addicts, for example, have lived through horrific physical and sexual trauma/abuse at the hands of men, and in order for these women to recover, they must first process their past experiences. More often then not, these women simply do not feel safe or comfortable processing, grieving, and healing from such abuse in front of their male counterparts. At the very least, a good inpatient or outpatient drug rehab will have separate process or therapy groups for their male and female patients.
Following Up With An All Women Sober Living
Even if you do not make the choice to seek single-sex treatment (it’s really not necessary for everyone), it is highly recommended that you select a single-sex sober living, should sober living be a component of your aftercare/discharge plan. If you are a woman, look for an all women sober living; if you are a man, look for an all-male sober living. Sober living homes are typically less monitored, so in-house romantic temptations can be all-consuming…if they are even present in the first place. So make it easier on yourself – choose a single-sex sober house. The less “drama” in your life, the greater your chances of a lasting & meaningful recovery!
