Successful Sober Living: Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Center Programs and Sober Living Homes
Sober Living
Sober living is not something that comes naturally to everyone. Some people must work to achieve a sober lifestyle. Nobody wants to feel weak, or as though they have failed, which can make confronting drug addiction or alcoholism very difficult. Denial is very common among drug addicts and alcoholics. In order for them to have a fighting chance for a full recovery and consequentially a sober lifestyle, they must have support. Family and friends of an individual who is struggling can be huge advocates for him or her if they provide proper support and encouragement.
Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Center
Participation in an alcohol and drug rehabilitation center is one option for individuals who wish to recover from alcoholism and/or drug addiction. Recovery programs at these alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers often include one-on-one counseling in addition to group therapy. Other activities geared towards improving mental and physical health are also an option.
Sober Living Homes
Sober living homes can be described as transitional environments. After participating in an inpatient program that provides comprehensive recovery assistance and constant surveillance an individual may feel confident in his or her abilities to stay sober. However, what happens when he or she has nobody to constantly look after him or her? What happens when he or she has other things on his or her mind besides staying sober? Slipping into relapse is easier than one may think. A sober living home is a stepping-stone between these intensive programs and returning home. They are less regimented and provide less surveillance. This way, an individual is able to gradually readjust to life outside of treatment. Once he or she feels more comfortable and more confident in his or her abilities, he or she may return home and hopefully avoid relapse altogether.
