Sober Living Homes and Sober Living as an Alternative to Jail

Sober Living on your own isn’t Easy

If you've been arrested and charged with drunk driving, chances are you'll probably have to go to jail, but, depending on the severity of the case, there are a few alternatives available to you which your DUI lawyer may be able to negotiate for you. If you are not a repeat offender and you’ve been sober living until this offense, you might be eligible for weekend jail, house arrest, or work release. Another work related option is work furlough, where you are allowed to go to your job, but must stay in a facility at night.

Rehab or Sober Living House

Most cities do not want to spend their time and resources locking up drunks. For many DUI offenders, spending time in jail does not fix the problem. Often, your lawyer can get you in to a rehab or sober living house instead of a jail sentence. Not only will you stay out of jail, but hopefully you’ll be able to get your drinking under control, you’ll get one-on-one time with counselors to investigate any underlying issues surrounding your drinking problem.

Sober Living Homes

Sober living homes are living situations where everyone assigned to live in the home has to work on combating their problems with alcoholism or drug addiction. Usually sober living rules require the residents in a sober living home to take 12-step classes. Sober living homes have more relaxed rules than rehabs, but you will still have curfews, mandatory counseling, and drug testing. It's advisable to hire a DUI defense lawyer who is knowledgeable about these types of jail alternatives. Your attorney can figure out which jail alternative would probably be the optimal choice for your specific DUI case. DUI laws and procedures are different for every state, so it's best to consult with your lawyer.
