Recovering from Drug Addiction: Drug Intervention, Drug Rehabilitation Centers, and Outpatient Drug Rehab

Drug Intervention
Drug addiction is a dangerous and life threatening illness. Convincing a drug addict that they need help is no easy task. While some individuals suffering from drug addiction can easily recognize that a problem exists, others may be in a severe state of denial. A drug intervention is an attempt by family and friends to assist the individual in confronting the reality of his or her addiction. Throughout the intervention process, those who are present must remain encouraging and supportive as they supply the individual with a host of appropriate treatment options. The chances of the individual submitting to his or her family's requests to get treatment are much more likely if the family presents themselves in a supportive manner. A drug intervention should be properly planned and families should consider the option of having a professional interventionist present to facilitate the intervention.

Drug Rehabilitation Center
One treatment option that should be explained during the intervention is participation in a drug rehabilitation center. Drug rehabilitation center programs vary depending on the level of addiction the individual is experiencing. Inpatient drug rehab programs are intensive and comprehensive programs that address every aspect of addiction. The goal is to educate the individual on addiction, and provide him or her with the skills and the tools that they need to maintain sobriety. Participants in inpatient drug rehab programs often work individually with a counselor, and in groups during group therapy sessions.

Outpatient Drug Rehab
Outpatient drug rehab is another treatment option that should be explained during the intervention. Outpatient drug rehab provides individuals with the same skill sets and tools that inpatient rehab provides, however, in a less structured manner. The process is less intensive as it does not require the individual to reside in a treatment center. Examples of outpatient rehab include intensive outpatient care, weekly and bi-weekly outpatient individual and group therapy sessions, 12-step meetings, etc.
