Long-Term Recovery from Alcoholism
An inpatient alcohol rehab is just the beginning
The path to recovery from alcoholism is a long and windy road. Many people get to the stage of admitting they need treatment, but few actually make it to an alcohol treatment center in their lifetimes. And even if one makes it to an inpatient alcohol rehab, there is no assurance that they will remain sober after their stay in an alcohol treatment center. More often than not, the recovering alcoholic left the alcohol treatment center without being given a comprehensive and ongoing recovery plan.
Relapse often occurs right after an inpatient alcohol rehab program
Too many alcoholics and addicts relapse in their first couple months after an inpatient alcohol rehab program. It can be very scary and difficult for a recently sober individual to leave an alcohol treatment center after just one month. After this month, the alcoholic’s family, friends and coworkers expect him to be right as rain, as though this disease could be miraculously cured.
The truth is that there is no cure or quick fix for the disease of alcoholism. It requires ongoing daily treatment in order to ensure each day without another drink. Recovering alcoholics are not—and should not be expected to be—ready to tackle all of life’s issues and complications by themselves the second they get out of rehab. This is why a good inpatient alcohol rehab will provide the alcoholic a means of social and emotional support for the immediate future upon their release, whether that be with continued counseling sessions or with 12-Step groups.
While these are necessary long-term recovery plans for all alcoholics, some alcoholics benefit from the sober living home. Sober living homes offer the alcoholic the best chance of long-term recovery because they give the alcoholic a safe environment in which to continue the growth and recovery process.
A sober living home is a pillar of support
Most alcohol treatment centers will provide the recovering alcoholic some sort of list with sober living homes that he can attend after rehab. However, Sober Pacific Living is a world-class sober living home that is affiliated with an Orange County alcohol treatment center. This affiliation allows the alcoholic to move seamlessly from an inpatient alcohol rehab program to our acclaimed sober living home.
