Learning Sober Living: Inpatient Alcohol Rehab and Outpatient Drug Rehab

Sober Living
Sober living can be extremely difficult for some individuals. Developing a chemical dependency on either drugs or alcohol is not difficult, and has become exceedingly common. Some people fail to recognize that they have an addiction and wont get help until an outside party intervenes. Others are able to acknowledge that the dependency exists, yet they do not know how to recover. Regardless of how it happens, the decision to achieve sobriety is the first step in the recovery process. The process can be tiresome and difficult, but will be worth it in the end.

Inpatient Alcohol Rehab
One option for recovery is inpatient rehabilitation. Inpatient rehabilitation accelerates the recovery process as an individual is placed in an intensive program that aims to quickly and successfully erase the addiction. Inpatient alcohol rehab, for example involves detoxification and comprehensive treatment programs. Understanding alcoholism is important and necessary in order to develop the skills needed to fight alcoholism. Inpatient rehab is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week commitment to fighting addiction. One on one counseling, group counseling, 12-step meetings, and other therapy forms are all included in many inpatient rehab programs. In addition to learning about recovery, individuals are also taught relapse prevention skills in order to promote a lifetime of sobriety.

Outpatient Drug Rehab
Another option that is less intensive and less comprehensive is outpatient drug rehab. Outpatient drug rehab can take on many forms, and is recommended for individuals suffering from less intensive addictions. Outpatient drug rehab can come in the form of intensive outpatient care, weekly and bi-weekly outpatient individual and group therapy sessions, 12-step meetings, etc. Outpatient rehabilitation is often recommended as a form of relapse prevention for individuals who have already completed an inpatient rehabilitation program.
