Connecting The Dots: Drug Intervention & Inpatient Alcohol Rehab
Does Your Loved One Need Alcohol Center Treatment?
If you suspect that a loved one’s drug and alcohol use has spiraled out of control and is no longer a matter of “just having a little fun,” chances are, you are correct. When it comes to those we love, we often have a sixth sense able to hone in on what ails them, no matter how hard we try to deny our suspicions. On the other hand, perhaps you are already well aware that your friend or family member’s drug and alcohol consumption is bordering on lethal and that he or she desperately needs alcohol center treatment. If you are unsure as to how you can help, it might be time to consider staging a drug intervention.
What Is A Drug Intervention?
A drug intervention is essentially a pre-planned, orchestrated attempt by one or more family members or friends to convince someone to seek professional help for his or her drug addiction. While an intervention doesn’t always, it is perhaps the most effective means by which to convince an obstinate addict to enter treatment. A drug intervention begins far before the actual family-to-addict confrontation session. First, a trained interventionist (it is suggested that you seek the help of a recovery professional) will meet with the family to help them write letters to the addict in question, outlining how his/her drug use has affected them and what consequences will be put into place should he/she refuse treatment. At the actual intervention, they will have the chance to read these letters, and the addict will have the chance to respond and, hopefully, agree to accept the help being offered.
Inpatient Alcohol Rehab Offers The Tools Of Recovery
If and when the addict agrees to accept help following his/her intervention, he/she will be immediately escorted to an inpatient alcohol rehab. Oftentimes, the addict may try to persuade his loved ones to let him enter treatment “later” or “tomorrow” or, if he is of the forward variety, “after one last high.” Most interventionists will recommend that you do not cave to his demands; it is crucial that he check into rehab before he changes his mind. Once he is settled into the safety of a treatment facility, his family is apt to breathe a much-needed sigh of relief. At this point, the war is indeed over – but the battle has just begun.
