Executive Rehab & Upscale Sober Living
The High-Powered Addict & The Advantages of Executive Rehab
Even in this age of high-profile celebrity drug rehab cases and increased addiction awareness, many people, particularly those afflicted with the disease of addiction, still harbor gross misconceptions of what it means to be an addict or an alcoholic. For many who still hold positions of prominence and power in the workplace, home, or community, it is difficult to see how they, too, have become addicts. While they might not be living on skid row, though, the emotional bottom(s) these “functional” addicts experience are just as demoralizing and real as those of the homeless junky. For these addicts, then, experts often recommend executive rehab, or a rehab center that caters to the high-powered addict who is accustomed to life in the fast lane.
Executive Rehabs Offer Upscale Sober Living Options
Perhaps the greatest draw of executive rehab facilities and upscale sober living homes is that they offer the same sort of privacy, individual attention, and luxury that executive addicts are used to. While an addict in any one of these facilities will by no means be coddled, he will experience recovery in a setting that feels homey and familiar, which is never a bad thing. There is an old saying in the recovery community that seems particularly appropriate here: “Whatever it takes.” Thus, if it takes a bit of luxury and pampering to convince a semi-willing executive addict that recovery is both desirable and possible, then so be it.
Getting There: An Executive Drug Intervention
Unfortunately, getting an executive, a celebrity, or a businessman to rehab can be quite the challenge. As previously stated, it can be easy for the financially successful addict/alcoholic to write off his addiction as being “not that bad.” After all, with a house, a thriving business, and two cars in the garage, how could it be, right? Wrong. If you have a loved one who might be described as a “functional addict” (i.e., his life responsibilities are still somewhat taken care of in spite of his addiction) and who therefore refuses treatment, you might want to consider staging an executive drug intervention. With assistance from a skilled interventionist, you and your family can plan a successful intervention that will force your loved one to examine the psychological and emotional consequences of his using. While success rates can never be guaranteed, an intervention is often just what the defiant, outwardly successful addicts needs to face his demons.
